Helping Venner continue to develop an engaging mobile app

Vegemi is an educational app for kids that was developed with the purpose of getting kids to eat their veggies. Venner, an expert organization specializing in food education were looking for a solution that would get children and their families excited about vegetables and their benefits. Adventure Club developed a mobile application that encourages children to spend time with veggies, eat them and feed them to a tiny tummy bacterium called Vegemi.

I was tasked with creating hidden, easter-egg type content only available to customers of the SSO grocery chain (part of S-kaupat, one of the largest grocery store chains in Finland). The client wanted a simple, cost-efficient way to get kids to return to the app and that would make grocery shopping an exciting event for kids. We developed a hidden vegetable patch for Vegemi, that would only appear by scanning point of sale materials at the grocery store with the app.

The vegetable patch was populated by more items each week and included both digital tokens and actual surprise items kids or their parents could redeem in-store.

I filled in for our digital producer in managing the project through development and deployment, taking on the role of both design and project management.

We also designed the point of sale materials to go with the launch of the hidden vegetable patch, instructing customers on how to access this additional summery feature.

The app development was continuous, with new features and mini games added each month.

In 2024, we started a UI and UX refresh, beginning with separating content into child mode and parent mode. We wanted to create a space where parents could find content about nutrition and health to support them in parenting and maintaining a healthy diet for their kids. Separating parental content into its own mode also paved the way for future partnership deals, integrating product placement into recipes.
